CONDUCTOR

“Stephen Mager …conducted Sunday’s highly commendable performance [of Berlioz], one exuding reverence and tonal beauty. The Symphonic Choir sang with resonance and transparency…All deserve praise, but most certainly does conductor Mager.”

- Peter Jacobi, Bloomington Herald Times

Reviewing Joshua’s Boots, Harry Weber of the St. Louis-Riverfront Times remarked, “Conductor Stephen Mager…is sympathetic both toward his singers and toward Hailstork’s score.” In Dream of the Pacific, noted Tim Page of the Washington Post, “For this East Coast premiere, Mager conducted the orchestra …authoritatively.”

Stephen Mager holds a Doctor of Music degree from the Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University, where he also completed his master’s studies. His teachers have included Jan Harrington, Julius Herford, Thomas Binkley, Robert Shaw, Margaret Hillis, Robert Porco, Dale Warland, John Poole, and Carmen-Helena Tellèz. Dr. Mager currently directs Ensemble Arcangeli, a professional chamber chorus devoted to music of the Renaissance. He has also conducted an expanded Arcangeli Chamber Chorus, a summer festival professional ensemble with whom he recorded two full length albums of his own music (1998 and 2014), conducted a 1999 performance of the Requiem by Maurice Duruflé.
